Top ten songs that we still love may differ from person to person. Infant I probably should have gone with “I still Love”. Furthermore I am sure our parents would have their own version of this list – that they felt we should know.
However, I can’t help feeling that as a child of the 90’s / 00’s we really did have some of the best highschool disco party tracks. We were the generation of cheesy pop and I do feel that today cheesy pop is substantially lacking. So I have compiled a list (with a little help from some friends too) of my “Top Ten School Disco songs that we still love!
1.Saturday Night
Who didn’t love this song?!? Even if you play the music now and the routine just happens naturally – where we store it in our brain I will never know but it is definitely well imprinted there
2 .5,6,7,8 – Steps
Another sensational dance floor routine – for years I thought it meant you were cool if you knew all of the steps and took the routine super seriously – turns out on reflection not so much…
3. Reach – SClub 7
S Club 7 had some sensational songs (I mean children today would probably think they were rubbish) however as an owner of all of their albums I still give this routine a good go on a night out!
4. C’est la vie – Bewitched
Although they only had a few songs this is a stand out for me – although listening to the lyrics as an adult I am shocked my mother let me sing it!!
5. Got the Feelin – Five
Or any Five track for that matter – the Five megamix is my most requested songs at weddings – because that is the age I am now at…
6. 1, 2 step – Ciara
I LOVED this song, myself and my best friend would do all of the moves when this came on! Most definitely underrated!
7. That don’t impress me much – Shania Twain
A definite strut around the dance floor song. I remember this being played at my first highschool disco in 2000 – which seems like five years ago as opposed to nearly eighteen..
8. Year 3000 – Busted
Such a good song and a definite one to jump around to – what will always bother me though is “Great, great, great grand daughter”…I always felt with a thousand years you would need a few more greats thrown in there…
9. Wannabe – Spice Girls
SPICE GIRLS – need I say more
10. Cha-Cha Slide
This I am aware is still used in kids parties however when it was first released it was a big thing to know the routine. I remember watching the video when it came up on a Sunday night on the chart low down (the days before download took over and you had to go and buy the song). I still know it now however I don’t know if anyone ever really knows what “Go to work” is…
